Who is Guillaume Vama ?
Originally from Ile des Pins (Kwenyii), Guillaume completed his primary education. He went on to secondary school in Nouméa, but the curriculum did not suit him. He observed. He adopted Diderot's philosophy: “Observation gathers facts; reflection combines them; experience verifies the result.” He discovered Plato's allegory of the cave and made it his own: knowledge is the driving force for building oneself and building around oneself. He fed on lectures, reading, and the ancestral agricultural know-how of the clan elders.
At the age of 20, he left for Europe as part of a European Voluntary Service program. He noted what not to do in agriculture, but discovered permaculture. This way of working the land opened the doors to agroforestry, which he would implement upon his return home. With a vocational qualification in horticulture under his belt, he began an eight-month traditional palaver on the Isle of Pines. In 2017, he won a Young Farmers' Trophy at the New Caledonian Day.
He continued to implement his agroforestry project, meeting with industry players and giving lectures. The COVID crisis confirmed that one of his goals, food self-sufficiency, was urgent. He then created the company TRADTECH (Tradition and Technology). The aim of this tool is to combine ancestral knowledge with modernity. He then began collaborating with Michel Sansoni, an agroforester in Dumbéa.

He then initiated the creation of the Agir NC Association, which brings together entrepreneurial initiatives in agroforestry. It aims to support Kanak youth and, beyond that, young entrepreneurs in the Pacific, to create a model of sustainable development that respects the traditions and cultures of Oceania and is aware of global issues. Green economy/blue economy is the framework to be respected.

In 2023, Weregnia (Guillaume) trained with Thomas d'Asembourg in nonviolent communication and became his representative in Oceania.

In 2024, he continued his work with the AGIR NC association. For him, agroforestry restores the connection of respect for the land and the entire ecosystem of the field.

Entering a field is like entering a hut (with respect and humility). The elders had this powerful connection to the land, and the syntropic agroforestry method is similar to this way of creating and respecting the ecosystem of a traditional field.

It also led to the creation of an NGO, ITKEL, and a second association, Kâorè.

A thought for collective awareness that will enable action for a generation caught between two worlds.

The customary palaver is a system of social relations implemented with respect for natural forces, the power of speech, and the gesture of exchange. Some palaver sessions end with important decisions written down in minutes.
The green economy is an economy that improves human well-being and social justice while significantly reducing environmental risks and ecological scarcities.
The blue economy refers to the sustainable use of marine resources for economic development while preserving the health of ocean ecosystems. It encompasses a variety of sectors such as fisheries, aquaculture, coastal tourism, and marine renewable energy. By promoting a balance between economic growth and respect for the environment, the blue economy aims to ensure the sustainability of the oceans for future generations.
